If there’s one thing all married people have in common (in my opinion), it’s that they never pass up an opportunity to counsel singles about marriage. It doesn’t matter if they’ve been married for one day, 3 months or 20 years. There just seems to be something about being married that you don’t know until you’re married, and that you can’t help but share with singles after being married.
So recently, Ifeoma Nkem-Gbemudu- HR Professional and author of the critically acclaimed book “Can I Be Married Already?!” hosted her first ever LOVEOLOGY SUMMIT to give 4 married people a chance to school the single folk.
The summit, which also doubled as a self-styled book-reading event, took place at the beautiful and cozy Woodhouse Café, Port Harcourt. It kicked off with the author reading animatedly from the 5th chapter of her book – “HOLY AND HORNY: Handling our sexual desires as Christian singles” to the joy of those present.
Right after the book reading came the panel discussion. Speakers on the panel were – Sofiri Ezekiel-Hart, Adaeze Jideonwo, Ikenna Amadi and Glory Onyema Nwosu. All 4 speakers who have been married from between 2 to 10 years, spoke passionately and honestly as they shared all they wish they had know about marriage before they got married.
They counseled single people about the need to discover their own God-given purpose before marriage, the need to pay attention to the character and beliefs of their intended, the need to deal wisely with the in-laws before and after marriage, amongst other things. All in all, it was an insightful session that left married attendees wishing they had been better prepared for marriage and the single thankful for the counsel they had received.
Ifeoma Nkem-Gbemudu has a first degree in Building Technology from Covenant University and a Masters in Human Resource Management from Coventry University. She got saved at the age of thirteen and has served in various capacities as a Bible teacher ever since.
